Description
OK history buffs, here's one for you; a Smith & Wesson Victory. S&W was approached by the War Department early in World War II with a request for hundreds of thousands of rugged, reliable sidearms which could fill a variety of roles. Smith & Wesson responded with the Victory, a Model 10 for which fit & finish were sacrificed in order to meet wartime demands. The Victory revolvers were supplied to the United Kingdom, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, and South Africa under the Lend-Lease program. They also served as the standard-issue sidearm for US Navy and Marine aircrews, and by security guards at factories and defense installations throughout the United States. The Victory Model remained in use with Air National Guard tanker and transport crews as late as Operation Desert Storm in 1991. Victorys aren't show-pieces; they were never meant to be. These were working guns. This exceptionally clean example is chambered in .38 Special, and is a later model, as evidenced by the “S” preceding the serial number. (S - Revolvers have the improved hammer block installed.)
Condition of this firearm, based on Blue Book of Gun Values guidelines, is 70%.
